FAQs

Does DAT offer paid internships or apprenticeships?

YES!

All interns and apprentices will receive a stipend. The stipend equates to the NYC minimum wage of $15/hour.

In addition, many Interns receive academic credit or fellowship grants from their educational institutions for their time at Dramatic Adventure Theatre.

We are also thrilled to provide our Interns and apprentices with travel grants. These grants allow us to give each participant a better opportunity for in-the-field international work experience. Candidates can apply for this grant through their initial application.

How does the selection process work?

You are welcome to apply anytime before the deadline. Once an application is received, it will be reviewed. Reviews begin after the submission deadline date. Candidates will then be interviewed in person or online via Zoom. Some departments may request a second round of interviews. All applicants will be notified (either way) no later than 8 weeks from the application due date.

Does DAT offer housing?

This is a remote work experience. Local NYC housing is not required for Professional Leadership Experience participants.

Are high school students or adults exploring new career paths eligible to apply?

All participants must be 18 years of age or older at the start of their internship and at least 21 years of age for an apprenticeship. Adults interested in exploring new career paths in arts administration or production are more than welcome to apply.

Will I be able to hold a job during the program?

PROBABLY.

Interns work an average of 10 hours per week and Apprentices 20 hours per week (hours may vary slightly from week to week, based on assignments). Please see the individual Apprenticeship or Internship pages for information on the hours required for each position. There is some flexibility on our end as to when work is completed — this should help to accommodate the demands of another job. During the interview we can discuss your particular workload to see if PLX will be possible for you.

If I am not offered an internship or apprenticeship can I apply again?

YES.

We receive a high number of qualified applicants and cannot accept them all. So yes, if you feel the program would still be beneficial to you, please re–apply.

If I have already completed an internship or apprenticeship once before, can I apply again?

YES.

We permit all interns and apprentices to hold each position a maximum of two times. Reapplying is not a guarantee that you will receive the position again.

Do you accept international applicants?

YES.

We do accept applications from international applicants. All that is required is access to the internet as this is a remote work experience.

NOTE: For the in-person field work (on your ACTion Expedition), we will of course need to ensure that you have a passport, visa, vaccinations, etc..
