Jason is a playwright, director, and theatre educator based in Brooklyn, NY. His original plays have been produced or developed at such places as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Mellon, The NY Public Theater, Stanford, and the NYC Fringe. Jason was a 07/08 Dramatist Guild Fellow where he was mentored by Doug Wright, observed Richard Nelson, and assisted Terrence McNally. He is currently under commission by the Kennedy Center to create a piece in honor of the 50th anniversary of J.F.K.'s inauguration. Jason received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon. He has directed his own plays in his native North Carolina with American Distractions, an artistic production company which he helped to found. Also in NC he helped to create the Greensboro Fringe Festival, a citywide celebration of new plays, for which he also directed his own work. As a theatre educator, Jason has the distinction of having taught every grade level from kindergarten to university. Highlights have included a four year stint as head of Theatre Arts at Northern Durham High School and undergraduate playwriting classes at Carnegie Mellon. Jason is currently a freelance theatre educator in NYC. He received his BFA in Theatre Education from UNC Greensboro. Though theatre is his first love, the outdoors has always come in a close second. He has hiked or kayaked throughout the U.S., from its eastern most point in St. Croix to Alaska's Prince William Sound. |
